Leave the Neversink decisions to its community

To the editor:
I was very disappointed to read Robert Doherty’s Letter to the Editor concerning the proposed Kerilands project in Willowemoc. Is this how the Chairman of our Legislature evaluates major issues that come before that body? By going to a single meeting - and one that was merely designed to show the community the developer’s plans for the first time?
I do not yet have enough information to decide if the proposed development is good or bad, or what changes might be beneficial. But such a proposal requires thoughtful consideration and debate given the long-term effects on our community and environment\. Neighbors of the property as well as the stewards of our environment such as Catskill Mountainkeeper need to be heard. Has Mr. Doherty reviewed traffic, water, environmental and other studies of the effects of the proposed project? I don’t believe anyone else has seen them, if they exist.
Fortunately, it appears Supervisor Chris Mathews and Planning Board Chairman Phillip Coombe will be giving the project the due deliberation and debate it merits.
I would suggest Mr. Doherty leave Neversink decisions to the Neversink community.
