Lesson expectations

I was asked a few days ago how I came up with the name Kleiner’s Korner for this column. Some of you might remember Ralph Kiner. He was the Pittsburgh Pirates great Home Run hitter back in a day.

He became a broadcaster for the New York Mets, and after each home game the star of the game came into a studio where Kiner would interview the player about the game. He called it Kiner’s Korner with a K. I thought it would be catchy.

This week’s golf tip is about expectations after taking a lesson. The reason a player wants to take a golf lesson is they keep getting the same poor results time after time. You must understand that when you make a change to your grip or swing it will be uncomfortable at first.

You might catch on quick and improve right away. Some players do. The grip is the most important part of your swing. It’s the only connection your body has to the club. If you get that right, you move on to the next adjustment.

The more balls you hit on the range making the adjustments needed, the faster you will improve. Playing casual golf with friends is fun. It’s even more fun when the ball travels where you want it to go. Make the effort to improve and you will love golf even more.

A golf lesson is a good learning experience. Try it out.
