LIBERTY – The Village of Liberty Police Department has begun beautification and structural upgrades to its building located on North Main Street, with help from a $20,000 Municipal Partnership Grant from Sullivan180.
According to Police Chief Steven D’Agata, they were awarded the grant in mid-April and will have until October to complete the project, which includes creating a garden in the front of the building, new signage and construction on the lobby.
“We are very excited to be partnering with Sullivan 180 to strengthen and beautify our community, and to make it a warm and inviting space,” remarked D’Agata.
The Village of Liberty is one of nine municipalities to receive this grant. Each year, Sullivan 180 awards grants to schools, municipalities, non-profit organizations and community groups to realize their vision for a healthy community. A full list of the 2025 grant projects can be found on Sullivan 180’s website, www.sullivan180.org.
“The Village of Liberty Police Department project is a great example of how small-scale improvements to a public building can make a big difference in how welcoming, safe, and accessible it feels to the community. Sullivan 180 is proud to support this effort to create a more positive and inclusive civic space,” said Shannon Cilento, Director of Community Development & Communications for Sullivan 180.
Third and fourth grade students from Liberty Elementary School helped the police officers plant the garden.Another upgrade includes a mural that will be painted on the south-facing wall. The police department worked with Liberty High School’s Art Department on a mural contest and they will be selecting student’s designs to be painted by a professional painter.
The Village of Liberty Police Department has even more additions to its property. The Leadership Sullivan class installed a mini food pantry, where anyone can take food if they are in need or add to it, and the Liberty Rotary Club recently installed a free mini library.
