Loosen up

I was on the driving range this past Tuesday hitting some golf shots. A fellow employee came down to warm up for the men’s league. The unnamed employee started hitting shots with his driver first then his fairway wood.  I looked over and suggested he start with wedges and work his way up to the driver. That’s the proper way to practice. He didn’t stretch before hitting or do any loosening up. After he left, another gentleman came down to the range with two large buckets of balls. The first thing he did was take out his driver and started banging out balls. I said to myself, you two guys just gave me an idea for an article to write.

Golf is not a sport that is kind to our backs. You really need to loosen up before playing. The tour pros always stretch. When they get to the range, they hit short shots first and drivers last.  Be kind to your body and get off to a better start in your round. Too many times I hear players saying, I had a rough couple of holes to start but then when I got loose, I was good.  Even if you are just running from work to the tee, there are good stretches you can do off the side of the golf cart. (Google stretching for golf).
