Lorena Alvarado, age 58, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 20, 2022.
She was raised in Carteret, New Jersey, had been a longtime resident of Middletown, NY, and recent resident of Jeffersonville, NY. She was the first daughter born in the USA of her parents Maria (predeceased in 2017) and Herbert Alvarado, with whom she had a loving lifelong relationship.
An avid reader, she was often found reading instead of playing with the kids in the neighborhood as a child. She was very proud of her Hispanic heritage and culture and would collect cultural objects.
Lorena attended Franciscan University of Stuebenville where she received her degree in social work. She worked at Sullivan County Probation Department. She later got her law degree from Brooklyn Law School, she practiced law with HUD in Washington DC, Manhattan, and Puerto Rico, as a federal advocacy group for housing rights. She followed her passion of culinary arts by attending the culinary French Cuisine School in Manhattan, where she later pursued her hobby as a chef. She often organized meetups with friends, most of which involved hiking and other outdoor activities, where she made many friends. She was very social and enjoyed live music. She often went to see her favorite musicians and performers. Lorena had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. Debating, camping with family, cooking, sharing bird sightings, and simply spending time with her will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her father, Herbert Alvarado; her brother and sisters; Susana Alvarado and her husband Paul David, Cecilia DeCotes and her husband Todd; her nieces and nephews, Samantha (Jacob), Amanda (Angelo), Paul, Emily (Matt), Kyle (Ashley), Aidan; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Emma, Isla, Ethan, and Valentino andher fur child, Frisco.
