MONTICELLO – Last week students, families and faculty filled the auditorium at the Monticello High School for the third Annual Varsity Awards Ceremony.
Ryan Jasper opened the ceremony with words of acknowledgement and congratulations to the Monticello Trap Teams, Dillon Cole, who recently won a 2nd Place Varsity Individual Medal at the state meet competition in Syracuse, and Quenten Liciaga, breaking a 40-year-old school high jump record of 6’5” previously set back in 1985. Quenten beat the record with a jump of 6’6.” “Then, less than 5 days later beat his own record at State Quals with a jump of 6’7,” said Jasper.
Alexis Heins received the MVP Award for Girls Alpine Ski and Senior Girls Athlete trophy that evening. More than 25 MVP awards were presented that night to varsity athletes in fall, winter, and spring sports.
In the Special Awards category, the Monticello Athletic Department presented 5 students with Scholar Athlete and Outstanding Male and Female Athlete Awards. This year, the graduating seniors were honored with a distinctive recognition: the Senior Athlete Poster.
This special poster, crafted by the Monticello Athletic Foundation, celebrates the achievements and dedication of each athlete for their varsity career at Monticello High School. Adorned with the athletes’ names, year of graduation, and photos, it serves as a reminder and lasting tribute to their hard work and dedication to sports. The posters were presented as a gift from the Monticello Athletic Foundation.
