MINNESOTA – According to multiple news reports, former Sullivan County resident Edward “Jake” Lang was arrested in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 5.
In a video Lang is seen kicking down an ice sculpture reading “Prosecute ICE” [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement] that was installed on the front steps of the Minnesota State Capitol.
According to CBS News, a state trooper arrested Lang a short time later, and he was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for suspicion of criminal damage to property.
In his own social media posts, Lang had previously been in Minnesota in mid-January when he instigated an anti-Muslim protest, where he stated he was going to burn a Quran.
During that event, Lang was met with counter protesters and videos of the scene went viral on social media. Lang was seen being yelled at by a crowd, and eventually walking away and getting into a car.
After the incident, Lang posted that he was “lynched for being White and Christian.”
Previously, Lang was indicted for his involvement in the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol for multiple counts, including assaulting a police officer with a baseball bat.
After four years awaiting trial in federal prison, Lang was ultimately pardoned by President Donald Trump in February last year.
He initially announced he would run for Congress in New York’s 19th Congressional District, which includes Sullivan County, but now has stated on his social media pages that he is running for U.S. Senate in Florida.
Lang, whose father is former Town of Tusten Councilman Ned Lang, graduated from Delaware Valley High School, PA in 2013.
On the day of his arrest on Thursday, Jake posted a video to his social media saying he was kicked out of a restaurant in Minneapolis. In the video, Lang, who appears to be filming, and employees of the restaurant are seen in an escalating confrontation as they ask him to leave, and ends with Lang and another man shouting that they were going to “call ICE on the illegal immigrant bartenders.”
