Orange County Arts Council awards grant funding

GOSHEN — The Orange County NY Arts Council has awarded $14,970 of funding to their 2024 Sustainable Arts Program (SAP) Grant Recipients. The OCNY Arts Council held a 7-week pilot program including courses led by diverse industry professionals, designed to cultivate the long-term success of the arts in our area and provide critical skills in sustainable arts organizations, practices and business.

Upon completion of the course on May 21st, each participant presented their proposal for funding to a panel of community leaders and local business professionals to request funding amounts. The SAP recipients were awarded between $1,000 to $5,000 in grant money to fund a portion of their project. In addition, awardees will continue to work with the Sustainable Arts Program and may request additional funding for two more years.

The goal of the SAP program is to develop the local artist community and provide resources for the longevity of our arts ecosystem. Participants in the program are selected based on the promise they show for continued participation and cultivation of this mission.

The program sessions took place at CoLab in Goshen with topics that included Finance, Marketing, Supports, Contracts and Networking. All classes were available to the public with prior registration and the Arts Council looks forward to providing this program again next year.

The 2024 Sustainable Art Program Grant Funding is awarded to:

Paige Dillon received $2,870 to develop a new piece of theater work for young audiences.

Janet Muller received $2,520 for programming and tech support at The Sanctuary in Otisville, NY.

Nicole Hixon received $2,140 for capacity building studio development.

Jiayi Ma received $1,660 for traditional Chinese dance performance education.

Shawn Rawls received $3,410 to support his work in movement-based healing.

Damien Hughes received $2,370 to support the development of his Newburgh-based theater group.

The Orange County NY Arts Council Sustainable Arts Program was administered by the Orange County NY Arts Council and funded through individual donations made to the Arts Council from donors and sponsors, including a generous gift from the Wesley-Krueger Family Foundation.
