Orwellian euphemism

Posted

To the editor:

I’m a fan of the Sullivan County Democrat. But this phrase harvesting that the paper uses as it pertains to the shooting and killing of deer and bear is an Orwellian euphemism. I’m surprised a newspaper would use such a euphemism for shooting and killing.

Editor's note: Our use of the word “harvest” actually comes from the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) website and printed publications. Hunters have to, by law, “submit a harvest report” and can do so using the DEC’s new official “Game Harvest Mobile App.” We try and use terminology familiar with sportsmen in our reporting and consistent with the agencies that oversee Environmental Conservation throughout New York State (www.dec.ny.gov).

I don't know, some people just can't do any research before they speak or even ask first.

David doesn't say anything when planned parenthood was or still is harvesting body parts from killed babies which is more barbaric but has gone on longer than harvesting food.

    Amazing, simply amazing.

Perhaps David prefers the word 'slaughter' as what they do to animals to put those steaks and chop's on the food store shelves!
