Paula Kay’s new Monticello office welcomes community

Posted

MONTICELLO — Newly-elected New York State Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay moved into her new office at 461 Broadway on January 15. Kay succeeds 20-year Assembly veteran Aileen Gunther, with whom Kay has worked closely.

The new office is open five days a week and will serve the needs of her district constituents. It also serves as a headquarters for her team, which includes Chief of Staff Rachel Steingart, Legislative Director Cody Vegliante, Communications Manager Andrew Maier, Office Manager Lena Dethomasis (based in Albany), and constituent liaisons: Honora Wohl, Alejandra Ortega and Jean Day. The 100th District comprises Sullivan County as well as the Town of Wallkill and the city of Middletown in Orange County.

Kay’s team says that the new office is open to everyone, and you can call for an appointment or just walk in.

“It is important to me to be on Broadway in Monticello, fully accessible to my constituents,” Kay said, “My door is always open.”

Kay is also available at her other district office in Middletown’s City Hall, where staff members speak Spanish, and also the Town of Wallkill Town Hall, where she will conduct office hours several times a month.

Kay’s vision for the 100th district in 2025 includes plans to address the challenges facing Sullivan County with regards to the housing crisis, healthcare, transportation, the environment, and the economy.

“There is clearly a housing crisis in Sullivan County, and I am looking for ways to combat the cost of housing for both homeowners and renters. The Governor [Kathy Hochul] has proposed first time homebuyer assistance in the Executive Budget; but there simply is no housing stock available,” Kay said. “We need incentives to create affordable and safe housing for our seniors, families, and young adults who want to continue to live here.”

Kay wants to make healthcare and transportation more affordable to county residents, and is working with law enforcement and the District Attorney to relegislate bail reform; “We need to give discretion back to our judges.”

She also wants to balance the imperative of protecting natural resources with the need to improve infrastructure and provide clean water to constituents.

Kay believes in cooperating with peers in state and federal government and is dedicated to providing firefighters and EMS workers with the resources they need to thrive.

Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay’s offices are located at 461 Broadway in Monticello (845-794-5807), and Middletown City Hall, 3rd floor, 16 James Street in Middletown (845-342-9304).
