CALLICOON – Callicoon Depot Inc (CDI), in cooperation with its partners the Callicoon Business Association and Upper Delaware Scenic Byway (UDSB), is pleased to announce that contract documents have been completed for the first phase of renovation of the railway station building located on Main Street in Callicoon.
The Depot will now begin the process of retaining a general contractor for construction. Interested general contractors can receive the Requests for Proposal by emailing allaboard@thecallicoondepot.org. Submissions are due on March 11. Presubmission site visits are detailed in the RFP.
Phase 1, designed by Bade Stageberg Cox Architecture, focuses on the renovation of the depot’s interior, excluding the former freight room.
The scope includes upgrades to the main lobby, entrances and existing restrooms; and restoration of the former ticket office, waiting room, and telegraph office. When Phase 1 is complete, the depot will provide offices and a visitor center for the UDSB, along with shared spaces for community use.
Future phases, currently seeking additional funding, will include the renovation of the freight room, continued rehabilitation of the building’s exterior, and improvements of the overall site, including the construction of a public plaza in front of the stage. Donations of both time and funding from the community are gratefully accepted.
Although the Depot is now closed for the winter, the CDI is busy planning depot events for 2026. Public events will begin in April. CDI typically has an open house on the last Saturday of the month April through September, plus a last open house for the season on ArtWalk weekend. There will be other events at the depot, including CBA-sponsored events such as Country Fair in July, ArtWalk in October, and Dickens on the Delaware in December. They also expect Operation Toy Train to return this year on the first Sunday in December. CDI will also be hosting a Depot Market on the second Saturday of the month from May through November. Events will be posted on the CDI website and our Facebook and Instagram pages about two weeks before each event. Events are also included in the “Coming Up” notices in the Democrat. More information is available on the CDI website: www.thecallicoondepot.org, or by emailing allaboard@thecallicoondepot.org.
