Re-gripping clubs

Posted

As a golf instructor, I see many clubs from my students that are in need of re-gripping. Most people do not realize the importance of this type of maintenance.

During the golf swing, you will hear many instructors talk about using your larger muscles to control the club. You should try to let your shoulders and hips control the club, not your hands and arms, but the only contact you have with the club is your hands.

A worn or smooth grip can lead to bad results in the swing.

If your grips are dirty, they can become slippery. You should wash your clubs with soap and water as they become dirty. This also includes your grips. Dirt from your hands will get into the grips and make them hard to hold.

Re-gripping your clubs is based on how much you play.

If you feel your grips becoming worn, you can take them to your local golf shop to be re-gripped. There are many types on grips available on the market today.

You should consult your local Golf Professional to get the right size grip for you. They also make specialty grips for those people who have arthritis or other types of ailments in their hands.

If you want to improve your game, remember to check your grips to see if they need to be replaced.

As an instructor, I always start by checking how the player grips the club, so as the player you should check your own equipment to help you play better.
