FALLSBURG — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop is so delighted to present its outstanding production of “The Wizard of Oz” based on L. Frank Baum’s fantasy novel. This play is celebrated for its storytelling, its musical score and its memorable characters.

Come see Dorothy (Mekayla Rayne)(Kai Colon) in rural Kansas living with her Uncle Henry (Harold Tighe) and Aunt Em (Geri Lake)(Sally Gladden).  Dorothy’s neighbor, Almira Gulch  (Jean Eifert), who had been bitten by Dorothy’s dog Toto (Cooper) obtains a sheriff’s order authorizing her to seize Toto. Toto escapes and returns to Dorothy who runs away to protect him. Professor Marvel (Joaquin Isler), a charlatan fortune-teller, persuades Dorothy to go home because Aunt Em is heartbroken. She returns just as a tornado approaches. Dorothy takes cover in the farmhouse and is knocked unconscious as the tornado lifts the house and drops it intact into an unknown land. Dorothy awakens and is greeted by a good witch named Glinda (Jill Baumander) who tells her she has landed in the Land of Oz and the Munchkins (too many local children to list) are celebrating because the house landed on the Wicked Witch of the East. Her sister, the Wicked Witch of the West (Jean Eifert) appears. But before she can seize her deceased sister’s ruby slippers, Glinda magically transports them to Dorothy’s feet. The Wicked Witch threatens Dorothy and Glinda tells Dorothy to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, the home of the Wizard of Oz (Kris Rosengrant) as he might know how to help her return home.

Along the way, Dorothy meets the Scarecrow (Andrew Hertzberg), who wants a brain; the Tin Man (Joshua Rosengrant) who wants a heart; and the Cowardly Lion (Dylan Jones) who wants courage. Through Dorothy’s many adventures and recognizable musical numbers, the action is resolved and All’s well that ends well.
