SULLIVAN COUNTY — Incumbent Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff will be the one to run under the Republican ticket in the General Election in November after his convincing victory over challenger Tim Dymond in the Primary Elections on Tuesday.
According to the Sullivan County Board of Elections, Republican voters at the polls gave Schiff the win with 2,952 votes, with Dymond earning 1,906 for himself.
This win sets Schiff up to run for the General Election in November under both the Republican and Conservative endorsements. His victory in the Fall would see another four years added on to his 20 years in office as Sheriff.
“The voters of the Sullivan County Republican Party have spoken,” Schiff said. “They have rejected the negativity and endorsed the continuing progress that we are making with their Sheriff’s Office.”
Dymond released a statement later into the night on Tuesday, saying “unfortunately, we came up short tonight in the Republican Primary for Sheriff. But I respect the voters’ choice, I truly appreciate the nearly 2000 voters who cast their ballots for me, and I wish the best to the brave men and women of the Sheriff’s Office.”
More election results
Tuesday’s elections also saw the results of a few other, more localized primary elections.
In the race for Democratic backing for the Bethel Town Council Member, both Paula Moss with 185 votes and Cliff Manning with 99 will receive the endorsement, beating out Nicole Newick, who gained 66 votes, and John Maniec, who garnered 55.
The two winners will run again on the Democratic line in the General Election in November.
The Town of Fallsburg saw a race for the County Democratic Committee. Taking the two seats were Ira Steingart with 33 votes, and Nathan Steingart with 29 votes. They beat out Pamela Krevoy-Wagner, who had 23 votes, and Stanley Wagner, who got 21.
On the Republican side in Fallsburg, the two candidates selected to be seated on the Republican County Committee were Jeff Wiener with 105 votes and James Ginty with 81. They were victorious over Joseph Perrello Sr.’s 60 votes and Karen Perrello’s 34 votes.
The Town of Rockland held a race to see who will be on the Republican ticket for Town Justice. Alexandra Vagnone took the seat with 184 votes, trumping Elwin Wood’s 109 votes.
