MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff won the race for sheriff. Although running on the Republican and Conservative lines uncontested, he faced a write-in challenge from Tim Dymond. Citing a need for change, Dymond, who worked in law enforcement, urged Sullivan County voters to choose him to lead the Sheriff’s Office in the county.
According to unofficial results from the Sullivan County Board of Elections, Schiff received 9,185 votes while there were 4,771 write-in votes for Sheriff, although the names aren’t available yet.
Schiff, who has been Sheriff since 2006 said, “I pledge that our office will continue the work of the dedicated men and women that work at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and we will always endeavor to make ourselves better.”
Dymond and Schiff faced off in the June Republican primary, with Schiff garnering about 61 percent of the vote. But Dymond didn’t give up launching an extensive write-in campaign.
“Unfortunately, we came up short tonight in the general election for Sheriff,” Dymond said in a statement. “I respect the voters’ choice and I truly appreciate the nearly 5,000 voters who decided to write my name in on their ballot. I wish the best to the brave men and women of the Sheriff’s Office.”
