MONTICELLO - On Sunday, December 29, Michael Schiff announced his intention to seek re-election as Sullivan County Sheriff. 

Schiff made the announcement before a packed house of approximately 80 supporters at Albella’s Restaurant in Monticello. The Sheriff talked about his successes and the innovative programs he initiated with his office over the last 19 years. 

Schiff gave much of the credit to the men and women under his command at the Sheriff’s Office. He spoke about the agency’s highly successful Youth Division with its School Resource and DARE program in the County’s schools. Schiff talked about the formation of the Emergency Services Unit and the acquisition of the BearCat armored vehicle to deal with armed and barricaded subjects. 

He also mentioned how he has used new technologies such as the Sheriff’s Drone Program to leverage the effectiveness of his deputies. 

Schiff mentioned the increased training that he has made available to his staff. The Sheriff also talked about getting back to basic policing, such as having his deputies walk foot patrols in the various hamlets and villages in the County. 

He talked about the success of his community outreach programs that have fostered strong bonds between the Sheriff’s Office and the public. Schiff also praised the hard work of his deputies in the Jail Division who deal with difficult situations every day and he thanked the members of his Civil Division who carry out the never ending court orders and judgements that are handed down each week.

 The Sheriff also acknowledged the work of his deputies in the agency’s security division who keep the County’s public buildings safe. Mike Schiff thanked those in attendance for their support and promised a strong campaign in the coming months.

Sheriff Mike Schiff has received an early endorsement from the Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers.
