DAMASCUS — Multiple New York fire departments responded to a structure fire in Damascus, PA, at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Monday, March 24. Callicoon and Lake Huntington fire departments were first on the scene and were assisted by Hortonville, Beach Lake, and Equinunk Fire Departments and Damascus Township Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
The brown, two-story home at 32 Diehl Road in Damascus was still smoking from the roof and the back of the house at 8:45 a.m. when one of the two Callicoon fire trucks engaged its aerial ladder. After positioning the ladder next to the burning house’s roof, a firefighter started climbing up to offer assistance to a firefighter already on the roof. By 8:55 a.m., the smoke had diminished and the fire had largely been quelled by the firefighters’ efforts.
At the time of press the cause of the fire and any resulting injuries were unknown.
