MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Conservation Club successfully concluded its 2026 summer youth program, marking the 17th year under the leadership of program director Jay Mendels. The initiative provided local youth with comprehensive firearm safety training and supervised instruction in .22 rifle shooting, trap shooting, and archery.
Throughout July and August, participants met every Monday evening at the club’s range in Ferndale. Each session began with a mandatory safety briefing before students transitioned to hands-on activities.
The program focuses on introducing new shooters to the shooting sport in a non-competitive, supportive environment. Instructors prioritized safety fundamentals while ensuring an engaging and fun experience for all skill levels. Thanks to a youth grant from the NRA, the club was able to provide equipment, ammunition, and supplies, keeping this a free program for all participants.
About the Sullivan County Conservation Club: The Sullivan County Conservation Club is dedicated to promoting conservation, outdoor shooting sports, and safety education within the community.
