Sullivan West honors winter sports athletes

LAKE HUNTINGTON — Sullivan West Secondary School honored its winter athletes Wednesday night, celebrating a season marked by team success, individual achievement and steady program growth across multiple sports.

The ceremony highlighted a range of accomplishments across the district, with two teams standing out. The JV girls basketball team completed an undefeated season, and the varsity

boys indoor track team delivered a dominant division championship performance.

The JV girls basketball team finished the season 15–0, the only undefeated team in Section IX. The group overcame a young and relatively inexperienced roster to build one of the most successful seasons in recent program history.

On the varsity level, the boys indoor track team captured its division title in commanding fashion, scoring 200 points compared to second place’s 78. The team also set multiple school records and sent several athletes to state qualifiers.

Together, the two teams reflect both the present strength and future direction of Sullivan West athletics. Younger athletes are emerging as key contributors while established programs continue to reach new competitive levels.

During the alpine skiing portion of the ceremony, one athlete was presented with a new pair of skis by a coach. The gesture recognized both performance and future potential within the program.

School officials closed the ceremony by thanking athletes, coaches and families for their commitment throughout a winter season shaped by frequent schedule changes and challenging conditions.
