SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts to present In The Heights

The SUNY Sullivan Theater Arts Program in Loch Sheldrake is proud to present In the Heights, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. Directed by SUNY Sullivan Theater Program professors Jessica López-Barkl and Nick López, the Tony-award winning play is the Theater Arts Program’s musical offering for its 2022-2023 Sueñito/Little Dream Season.

In the Heights will be performed Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., in the Seelig Theatre on the SUNY Sullivan campus. Reprise performances will be held the weekend of December 7-10.

All campus visitors who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 are required to wear masks indoors at all times.

Tickets are a suggested donation of $10 to the SUNY Sullivan Theater Program/Performing Arts Club.

The pandemic proved that what is important in our lives is our families and our community, said López-Barkl. To celebrate this lesson, the Theater Program is producing shows that focus on our sueñitos or our “little dreams.” “The season name was inspired by the students we serve at SUNY Sullivan and the strong community we have created in our theater program that helps nurture dreams,” said López-Barkl. “This little community banded together during the pandemic to keep us busy and inspired. Without our little dreams, our sueñitos, we would not have survived the pandemic. We are honoring our community and our dreams this season.”

Synopsis: In the vibrant New York City neighborhood of Washington Heights, bodega owner Usnavi and his friends dream, hope and work for a bright future.

The production includes some mature content and themes.

Other productions for the SUNY Sullivan Theater Program 2022–23 season include Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein and Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare.
