Cannabis in Rock Hill?

THOMPSON — The Thompson Town Board reconvened in the new year during the re-organizational meeting on January 2 at Thompson Town Hall.

There are no changes on the town board as Bill Rieber Jr. returned as Town Supervisor along with Councilpersons Melinda Meddaugh, Scott Mace, Ryan Schock and John Pavese. Meddaugh will also serve as Deputy Supervisor for the new year.

In 2024, Thompson Town Clerk will be Marilee Calhoun, and Thompson Town Attorney will be Michael Mednick, and Richard Benjamin Jr. will be Thompson Highway Superintendent.

Cannabis

In Rock Hill, Platinum Leaf, LLC has started the process to establish one of the community’s first cannabis retail enterprises. Currently, the application is under review by the Thompson Planning Board, with a slated presentation at the upcoming January 10 Planning Board meeting.

The State of New York has witnessed a surge in adult-use cannabis dispensaries, with the recent addition of the 45th establishment in Orange County marking a milestone as the first in the Hudson Valley.

While the adult-use sector experiences this expansion, traditional medical cannabis dispensaries like The Botanist in Middletown and Curaleaf in Newburgh have existed in the Hudson Valley for many years.
