Viola (Wingert) Fulton, 95, a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, of Cochecton, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Kaplan House Hospice, Newburgh, NY. Viola was the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (Gaissert) Wingert. She was born December 16, 1927 Forest Hills (Queens), NY.
Viola grew up on a farm in North Branch. She met her late husband Bernie Fulton at a dance in Hortonville, NY. It was love at first sight. Bernie and Viola worked the Fulton family farm in Cochecton.
She was a member of the Fosterdale Methodist Church. She was a proud member of the NRA.
A family statement reads: “Viola was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt and loved nothing more than spending time with them. She helped raise the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very family oriented and enjoyed the farm life. Viola enjoyed feeding the baby calves on the farm. She will be forever cherished in our hearts and missed by all.”
She is survived by her daughter: Jean Hector of Cochecton, four grandchildren: Jennifer (Hector) Norris of Youngsville, Michael Scott Hector, wife Crystal of Narrowsburg, Melanie Hector, fiancé John Gleason of Livingston Manor, Olivia (Fulton) Kern of Cochecton, seven great-grandchildren: Hunter Kern, Maegan Kern, Kenneth Kern Jr., Grace Hector, Jonathan Hector, Hailey Norris and Mary Kate Norris, daughter-in-law May Fulton of Cochecton, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viola is predeceased by her Bernard C. Fulton, son: Robert Fulton, three brothers: John Wingert, Floyd Wingert, Harry Wingert and sister: Marie Gibbons.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church, Lake Huntington, NY, services will be held at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel.
