LAKE HUNTINGTON — On Wednesday afternoon, the atmosphere at Sullivan West High School was tinged with excitement as students buzzed with curiosity and enthusiasm, making their way to the gymnasium for the much-anticipated annual College and Career Fair.
This event drew roughly 45 local businesses, colleges and emergency services to highlight a diverse range of opportunities available to students right in their own community.
Among the many valuable resources showcased were organizations such as the Sullivan County Center for Workforce Development, which provides guidance on career readiness; the Sullivan County Division of Public Safety, offering insights into various safety-oriented careers; and the Sullivan County Probation Department, highlighting pathways in rehabilitation services.
Each participating vendor brought unique programs and information aimed at fostering student engagement with potential career paths without necessitating extensive travel beyond their local area.
In terms of college options, students were able to chat with representatives to discover just what college life is like at certain universities such as Maywood University, and Misericordia University.
“We want to show the students that there is so much opportunity here in Sullivan County or close surrounding areas,” said Sullivan West High School Guidance Secretary William Hulse. “They don’t have to travel far for great college or career options.”
