Wolf Lake neighbors support Mamakating Library

MAMAKATING — The Mamakating Library is pleased to announce a $3,000 grant received from our friends at Wolf Lake that will enable us to expand our reading tutoring program this summer, and offer a kindergarten prep program. The grant will support three goals developed to address expressed interests and needs in the Mamakating community. These include continuing last year’s reading enrichment program for students in our school district to help prevent the “summer slide” in literary skills and creation of a kindergarten prep series to help children develop the early literacy and social skills that they will need to be successful in school. The grant will also allow us to hire two local teen helpers to assist with the programming, thus allowing them to gain valuable work experience.

“Libraries are offering more resources than ever before,” said Library Director, Cheryl Jones. “The Mamakating Library strives to be a place where anyone can come to get answers, find the materials and programs they want, and feel accepted as valued members of our community. These grant-funded programs will give us an opportunity to bring children and teens into the conversation, fostering a love of libraries, reading, and community at an early age. We are grateful to the Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation for seeing the value in this goal.”

After the success of last summer’s reading enrichment program, also sponsored by the Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation, the Mamakating Library Board of Trustees acknowledges this on-going partnership and the shared goals between our organizations to give local students every possible chance at success and hopes for another successful summer of enrichment programs.

This programming is sponsored by The Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation, Inc., homeowners at nearby Wolf Lake, engaged in philanthropic activities in the towns of Mamakating and Thompson.

For information about participating in these programs contact library director, Cheryl Jones at mam@rcls.org  or call (845)888-8004.
