Board of Elections denies LaBuda petition

MONTICELLO - The Sullivan County Board of Elections has determined the “For the People” party petition to nominate Frank LaBuda is invalid.

LaBuda is running for Sullivan County District Attorney against Acting District Attorney Meagan Galligan.

He will run on the Republican line after winning the primary election against Galligan, who is running on the Democratic line.

According to the Board of Elections, the petition contained 1,477 signatures and required 810 valid signatures from registered voters.

There were 882 objections bringing the total number of valid signatures to 595.

In a statement, LaBuda says some of the signatures did not adhere to the “strict Board of Elections requirements,” such as not providing full addresses or printing their name instead of signing it.

“Although I do not agree with county election commissioners' decision, I must accept their decision and not waste time, money and effort in protracted litigation to contest it in a court of law,” LaBuda said.

However, Galligan says that in their review of the Board of Elections' findings she said that at least 24 pages within LaBuda's filing list Frank LaBuda as the Petition Witness.

“Obviously, Frank LaBuda was lying to the people of Sullivan County when he blamed his own friends and supporters who helped him collect signatures for losing the line,” Galligan said.

This is a developing story and we will continue to update it.
