ROSCOE –– Saturday’s second game was the tournament consolation matchup between Sullivan West and Livingston Manor/Roscoe. The two teams lost to Margaretville and Tri-Valley on Friday respectively. Despite the Wildcats’ deep bench and full-game press, Sullivan West was able to hold on for a 47-41 victory.

It was a very slow start in the consolation game, with only seven points scored from both teams. Sullivan West took a 5-2 edge after the first quarter. The offenses got off to a better start in the second quarter, as Sullivan West increased their lead to seven by halftime at 18-11.

Manor came out swinging in the third quarter, using a 9-3 run to cut the lead down to just three points, but Sullivan West answered with a run of their own to get it back to seven by the end of the third quarter.

With a 29-22 lead to start the fourth quarter, it was far from out of reach for the Wildcats. Manor/Roscoe brought it back within three in the fourth quarter a few times, but Sullivan West was able to secure clutch buckets to maintain their lead until the final whistles. When all was said and done, the Bulldogs were able to hang on for a 47-41 victory behind Brandon Haass and Evan Ebert, who each netted 12 points. Matt Dubois added 10 for Sullivan West.

The Wildcats were led by Ben Johnston (17 points) and Kaleb Maldonado (12 points) in the loss.

“We needed that one,” Sullivan West Coach Ronj Padu said. “We lost a few close games coming into this one, and it was nice to be on the winning end. Playing in the Fred Ahart Foundation Games is always special. Coach, he always had advice and encouraging words, even though I was never on one of his teams.”
