Busy Monday for the Callicoon and Hortonville firemen

Posted

At 8:45 a.m. yesterday morning a call went out for a chimney fire at 19 River Road, Callicoon. The residence, located next door to the Callicoon Post Office, is owned by Tom Dent, himself a Callicoon fireman. The Callicoon and Hortonville fire departments responded with several firetrucks and a tanker, along with more than a dozen firemen. Once on the scene the firemen were able to quickly control the blaze and Callicoon Fire Chief Willie Maxwell, above, disconnected the stove pipe and was able to free it of debris (above). Neighbor Carol Ginsburg walked over to see if everything was OK with Dent’s house and on the return trip to her home, slipped on the ice and apparently broke her ankle (pictured below). Several firemen, including Callicoon fireman Conor Duffy, pictured below, administered aid to Ginsburg and also took off their jackets to keep Ginsburg warm until Upper Delaware Volunteer Ambulance Corps could arrive to transport her to the hospital.
