Youngsville water leak patched

JEFFERSONVILLE – The Town of Callicoon Board took action on the unsafe building at 797 North Branch Callicoon Center Road and the junkyard violation at 659 North Branch Road at their latest meeting on Monday, August 12.

The town board passed a resolution to put out a request for proposal (RFP) for the demolition of the house on 797 North Branch Callicoon Center Road and another RFP for the 659 North Branch Road property to be cleaned up, removing all but one junk vehicle.

The latter property currently has eight junk vehicles, so seven of them must be removed by the property owner James Minoux before next month, as one unregistered vehicle is allowed per law.

If he does not get them removed, the town will move forward in getting proposals and remove them. Any value that the vehicles have will go back to Minoux after the town sells them to a licensed scrap dealer, as they proposed.

Town Supervisor Tom Bose reported that Code Enforcement Officer Kris Scullion has had contact with the owner of the property at 797 North Branch Callicoon Center Road. Bose and Scullion both agreed that they don’t feel that any action was attempted to be taken by the owner, despite being aware that the building must come down.

The town agreed to put out an RFP for the demolition and cleanup of the property and the proposals will open up next month. Bose said that the property would then return to the tax bracket. Scullion agreed that he would attempt one more time to get in contact with the property owner and give them until next month to do something with it.

Youngsville Water District leaks fixed

Supervisor Bose also said that they are in very good shape in the Youngsville Water District after dealing with some water leaks late last month into early this month, that required them to declare water conversation measures.

“Everybody cooperated very well and I want to thank all the users for that,” said the Supervisor.

Bose also said that on top of having water loss issues, they were also having some electrical issues at the water plant.

“I want to thank NYSEG [New York State Electric and Gas] for getting on that and big thanks to [Water Superintendent] Kevin Klein and [Water District Plant Operator] Joe Kavleski who spent a lot of nights and took turns making sure the pumps were running to supply our reservoir.”

Bose said that they were notified late one night last month of the main break in the center of Youngsville, across from Youngsville Garage. He said that they worked there until about 2:30 a.m. repairing it and cleaned up the next day.

“That was our major leak,” he said. “We did have a few small leaks in service lines to residents that we were able to find and Kevin [Klein] repaired them.”

Bose also noted that their daily water usage is now down to the lowest it has ever been at 25,000 gallons per day. He said that the land-clearing work to prepare for the construction of the new water tank will begin this year. The actual construction of the tank is set to occur next year.
