DAMASCUS, PA — Rebecca Lawrence, Case Worker for the Honesdale Center of the Salvation Army, put the word out that they needed assistance to help fill their food and hygiene supply closets. Rebecca said, “These supplies are offered to many who are in crises struggling.” Megan Wessman, Lay Preacher for the Damascus Manor United Methodist Church relayed the message to the church community. From there, Melissa Rutledge, a church member, contacted three Damascus 4-H Clubs to help maximize the collection. Community Service Learning is an integral part of the 4-H program; teaching members to help others in need in whatever ways they can. Amy Rutledge, Key Leader of the Horse Lovers 4-H Club and Betsy Turner and Bindy Diehl, Leaders for Maple Line 4-H Club joined Melissa and the Tri-Gal 4-H Club to collect a large variety of nonperishable foods, hygiene and baby care items.
