Delaware Youth Center going back to bid for outdoor court project

CALLICOON – Delaware Youth Center (DYC) President Alex Gardner came to the Delaware Town Board on Wednesday, August 14, requesting a rebid on their outdoor court project. Gardner stated that a rebid is required because they need to update the language in the bid package as the two bids that came in were at too high of a price.

“We want to ask [Town Engineer] Bill [Brown] to come and look at the bid package to make sure that when we put the bid out it’s properly written,” Gardner said.

The DYC received a $100,000 Silver Feather Award from Sullivan 180 that they will use for the court project, which includes redoing the outdoor basketball and tennis courts and adding pickleball. The project will include scraping down the current courts, resurfacing them and extending the current fence towards the ballfield. Gardner noted that they have two years to work with the grant from Sullivan 180.

“The bids that came in included replacing the entire fence, which we don’t need,” he said. “So we just didn’t word it right.”

Town Supervisor Scott DuBois was on board with rebidding the project along with the entire board.

“It is a great project,” DuBois said. “It’s a huge asset to the community. Whatever we can do [to get it done.]”

The board unanimously voted for the bids to be rejected and the DYC to put it out for a rebid.
