Environmental group acquires protected land

WURTSBORO — Ridgetop Lakes Conservancy, Inc. announced the acquisition of nearly 35 acres of environmentally sensitive land along the Mamakating/Thompson line south of exit 111 on Rt. 17 in Sullivan County.

The newly protected acreage drains directly into Yankee Lake and will now remain forever wild, reinforcing long-term watershed protection efforts for the lake and the surrounding ridge-top ecosystems.

The parcel represents a significant addition to ongoing conservation work in the Shawangunk and Mount Prosper ridge-top region. Its preservation strengthens the mission of the Ridgetop Lakes Conservancy and supports the broader environmental stewardship efforts of neighboring lake community organizations.

“This acquisition fits precisely with our mission of protecting the freshwater lakes and natural habitats of the Shawangunk and Mount Prosper ridge tops and reflects the kind oflasting safeguards we strive to achieve,” said Robert Rogers, President, Ridgetop LakesConservancy, Inc.
