Fallsburg subjects arrested following an investigation into a reported stabbing

Posted

On July 7, 2024, Fallsburg Police responded to the Gulf gas station in South Fallsburg for a report of a large fight in progress. Upon arrival, patrol spoke with multiple subjects on scene and it was alleged that a male victim had been stabbed in the lower back. The victim was evaluated by Mobile Medic EMS at police headquarters and was then transported to the Fallsburg High School, where he was then flown by medivac to the Westchester Medical Center for further medical treatment. Upon further investigation by Fallsburg Police Detectives, alleged suspects of the incident were identified as Milton Matteo Romero and Effrain Petzoy Sancoy. Both individuals were taken into custody and charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a felony, and Mr. Petzoy Sancoy also charged with Criminal Possession of Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a misdemeanor. Arraignments were held in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Kaminski and the Honorable Judge Scheinman, and both individuals were remanded to the Sullivan County Jail, set to reappear in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court at a later date. Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
