Fire breaks out at abandoned building

MONTICELLO  — Sullivan County 911 dispatched the Monticello Fire Department to a working structure fire at Waverly Avenue and Cherry Blossom lane in the Village of Monticello at 4:07 p.m on Wednesday.

Firefighters rushed to the abandoned building engulfed in flames, as a second alarm had to be issued, bringing in additional support from neighboring fire departments. 

Monticello Fire Department worked alongside mutual aid Engine and Manpower from Rock Hill and the Bethel FAST Team to contain the blaze.

Wurtsboro stood by in Rock Hill as Liberty stood by in Monticello, ready to assist if needed. 

Also on the scene was the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire Investigators, Monticello Police, Sullivan County Sheriff, Mobilemedic EMS, the NYS DEC, and Village of Monticello Code Enforcement. Monticello Units continued to stay on the scene until 6:26 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire.
