Forestburgh FD purchases AED’s

Posted

FORESTBURGH - The Town of Forestburgh Fire Department’s recent annual fundraiser allowed the purchase of six brand new Philips Heartstart automated external defibrillators (AED) for the department.

The AEDs have been placed in the four line officers’ vehicles. They are replacing equipment that was outdated. One car is now equipped with an apparatus that previously had none, providing life-saving equipment to use at anytime.

Each of the AED’s that were purchased cost approximately $1,200.

The equipment could mean the difference between life and death, as the only way to restore a regular heart rhythm during cardiac arrest is to use an AED.

According to the American Red Cross, sudden cardiac arrest is among the leading causes of death in the United States. More than 350,000 people will suffer a cardiac arrest this year.

Forestburgh Fire Chief Zachary Petrowsky said that the department appreciates the generous donations of the community that allow them to better serve those in need.
