LIBERTY – The Liberty Commons Apartment Complex went up in flames on Tuesday, July 16 at about 6:20 p.m.

The Liberty Police Department and Sullivan County Bureau of Fire Arson Investigators conducted a thorough police investigation following the incident. Police Chief Steven D’Agata said that the investigation determined that the apartment tenant, 56-year-old Davina Holden of Liberty, purposely set the apartment ablaze using an accelerant and a lighter.

D’Agata said that the Village of Liberty Police Department observed visible smoke coming out of the residence. Firefighters on the scene got the fire under control and confirmed that there were no people inside the inflamed apartment.

Holden was arrested and processed by the Village of Liberty Police Department, according to D’Agata. She was charged with Arson in the 2nd degree, a class B felony and reckless endangerment in the 1st degree, a class D felony. Holden was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
