WAPPINGERS FALLS — A week removed from the NYSPHSAA Cross Country State Championships, both Anna and Van Furman were back in action for the annual Federation race at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.

Anna finished as the runner up in Class D, and 22nd overall with a time of 19:08.3 at Vernon-Verona-Sherill High School.

In the Federation race, a merged race between public schools of all sizes and private schools, Anna was able to finish 20th overall with a time of 19:32.2.

Anna, in only her freshman year, has put together a successful varsity season and will likely look to build off of it next year, with the only person finishing above her at States set to graduate this year.

Van, on the other hand, won the boys’ Federation race. His time of 16:07.6 was more than five seconds faster than second place, and the 2-7 runners are all seniors this year.

It is the first time that a Tri-Valley boy has won the Federation race, and Van still has his senior season to look forward to.

After winning the State Championship for Class D and the Federation race this past weekend, Van will be headed to Franklin Park in Boston, MA for the Foot Locker Northeast Regional. The race is set for tomorrow and will feature premier harriers from all over the Northeast, giving Van a chance to see where he stacks up alongside some of the best runners on the East Coast.
