Gifts for Wayne County Dairy Month Baby

HONESDALE, PA — Every child is special, but baby McKenna, born June 1st at Wayne Memorial Hospital, already has a very special title:  Dairy Month Baby.  McKenna was visited in the hospital’s New Beginnings’ Birthing Suites by Wayne County’s Dairy Court and presented with a basket of goodies as the very first baby born at the local hospital in the month of June.

McKenna’s last name, withheld by request of the family, slept through the gift-giving but her mother was grateful and pleased. The basket included Calkins Creamery cheeses, blankets, a cow puppet and numerous other infant and dairy items. McKenna, one of seven children, came into the world at 7:05am, with the help of obstetrician/gynecologist Eric Rittenhouse, MD/Women’s Health Center.

She weighed 9lbs, 6oz and was 20 inches in length. June Dairy Month started out as a way to distribute extra milk during the warm months of summer and has been celebrated since 1939. Many nutritionists recommend low-fat milk products, a source of calcium, potassium, protein and vitamin D, as part of a daily balanced diet.
