Healthiest Fire Department Challenge
The Sullivan 180 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge is walking to the beat for National Walking Month. In the lead is Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department with 161 points; Jeffersonville is in second place, with Kauneonga Lake close behind.
This week, departments cooked healthy taco spreads for Cinco de Mayo, took walks and did litter plucks in their communities, enjoyed healthy snacks after drills, and started off the month with blood pressure checks and health board updates.
Smallwood-Mongaup Valley firefighters (featured) took a walk on a new route through the Smallwood Forest Reserve, a 130+ acre area with beautiful trails, outdoor exercise equipment, and a dog park.
For National Walking Month, departments are participating in a special walking challenge and Smallwood-Mongaup Valley is tied for 1st place with the most miles walked during the month so far! Both Smallwood-Mongaup Valley and White Lake Fire Departments hold 1st place with 4 miles each; close behind is Kauneonga Lake Fire Department with 2 miles.
Keep following along to see who will be the winners of the 2026 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge!
