The Barryville Chamber of Commerce and local General Practice attorney Michael Frey have teamed up for another of the Chamber's Business Assets and Well-being Workshop Series.

The next workshop will feature Mr. Frey who has nearly 40 years of legal experience aiding with completing Living Will and Healthcare Proxy forms for those who are interested. During the Covid-19 pandemic having both forms properly executed can provide peace of mind that an individual's medical care will be given according to their stated wishes.

A Living Will document clarifies in a written format the type of medical care you want under specific medical circumstances and the right to decline treatment. A Health Care Proxy form allows someone to appoint a person they trust to make healthcare decisions in instances where an individual loses their ability to make decisions for themselves.

An appointed Health Care Proxy can also decide how medical treatment is applied as an individual's medical condition changes and all healthcare providers must abide by the Health Care Proxy's decisions as to treatment outcomes and medical care.

The Workshop will take place on Sunday, August 9th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be held on the deck of the Sunshine Hall Free Library in Eldred. Face coverings and social distancing protocols are required. It is also necessary that you pick up both the Living Will and the Healthcare Proxy forms in advance and complete them as much as possible. Mr. Frey will assist you with any questions or answer your concerns and will notarize your forms.

You may pick up the forms at the Town Clerk's Office (845-557-6085) or at the information/welcome table at the Barryville Farmers Market on Saturday mornings or at the River Valley Family Medical Center-Dr. Daboul's office in Barryville (Mondays and Wednesdays-845-557-6411) or in their Port Jervis Office (Tuesdays and Thursdays) The event is free of charge and it is a good opportunity to get both of these important medical forms completed correctly.

Team Izzy is in full swing and there are some plans for various fundraisers to help Isabella Giglio a nine-year-old Eldred student who is facing some serious health challenges following two recent brain surgeries.

Her school friends held a lemonade stand in Glen Spey last week and worked awfully hard in the blazing heat and raised over $7,500 to help their friend and “bring her smile back.” #Girl Power!

The next event happening to support the Giglio family will be a spaghetti dinner which is being sponsored by the Cant Hurt Steel Community Foundation. The Izzy's Spaghetti dinner will be held at the Highland Town Hall on Saturday, August 15th and serving starts at noon until 6 p.m.

Ticket are $10.00 for adults and children $5.00. The dinner is takeout only! You are asked to wear masks and practice safe distancing protocols. Come out and support the Giglio family as they navigate through their daughter's complicated medical treatment. Please make any donations payable to Isabella Giglio.

I will make sure to post any new fundraisers planned for Izzy and soon you will be able to buy a very pretty “Team Izzy” wristband to support the family at the Corner Ice Cream Shop in Eldred.
