Janette (Jan) Johnson Fredd joined her soulmate, Carl W. Fredd, for eternity on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. The daughter of the late William and Bernardine Johnson, she was born December 23, 1936 in Port Jervis, NY.

Jan resided in Livingston Manor, NY. She worked for decades in the office at Manor Poultry in Livingston Manor, NY and retired from Murray’s Chicken in South Fallsburg, NY. While retired, she and Carl enjoyed traveling and spending time with their granddaughters, Katherine (Katie), Nicole, Emily, and Richelle Kortright.

After Carl passed, Jan’s daughter, Tricia Cosgrove, moved in with her and over time became her caregiver. Jan and Tricia had many adventures together that included a vacation in Maine, moving Richelle into college, three trips to visit Jan’s sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Ronald Boffa, in Conroe, TX, many nights driving around looking for bears, a lot of surprise visits to see Jan’s very special sister-in-law, Norma Cucci, in Callicoon, NY, visits with cousins Loretta Buchanan, Linda Otto, and Beth Emerson, fairs, concerts, casinos, car races, and museums.

During that time, Jan adopted her beloved canine companion, Carlee, who often accompanied her on these adventures. When the pancreatic cancer came back and her health declined, Richelle returned from college so that Jan could be moved back home to be with Carlee. Nicole and Richelle took on the role of caregiver while Tricia was at work. Jan’s special cousin, Marilyn Parks, came to visit several days a week to reminisce and kept her company for hours on end.

As well as Tricia, her daughters, and the above mentioned, Jan is survived by a son, Thomas Cosgrove IV of Grahamsville, NY, and his family, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to Carl and her parents, Jan was predeceased by her son, Richard W. Cosgrove, her brother, Richard Johnson, and a very special nephew, Frederick W. DuMond.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alice Wei from Memorial Sloan Kettering for performing a procedure that no local surgeon would attempt, and that procedure provided Jan with the ability to eat and a sense of normalcy for the final months of her life. Thank you to Dr. Robert Dinsmore and his staff at CRHC for the amazing care that she received over the years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Orange & Sullivan’s West Team and their on-call providers. A very special thank you to Jerry McArthur for his loyalty, friendship, and always making sure the house and property were maintained.

Jan selflessly donated her body to science. Jan requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Ride2Survive Sullivan County, Inc., PO Box 282, Youngsville, NY 12791. This organization assists Sullivan County cancer patients with transportation expenses while receiving treatment for their disease. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
