Liberty unveils new Redhawks logos

LIBERTY – Back in October of last year, Liberty Central School District unveiled their new logos to go along with their new nickname, “Redhawks,” as they discontinued the “Indians” nickname in compliance with New York State law. The use of the Redhawks mascot was approved by the Board of Education in June of last year following a vote by the public in May.

But then copyright issues arose regarding the logos in November, which forced the school district to discontinue the use of the specific logos. Over the course of the following months, Liberty went back to using the Block L logo they had used previously while they underwent the process of making a new logo.

Following a vote by the public in May 2023, the Board of Education approved the use of Redhawks mascot in June 2023. Now, after about a year since they decided on the new mascot, Liberty has finalized a new Redhawks logo.

The design process began shortly after the previous logo was discontinued in November. The district worked with Gilday Creative to come up with the initial designs. They held several rounds of redesign while receiving student input before two basic mascot designs were created. One has a redhawk in flight and the other features the head of a redhawk in a badge form. The words “Liberty Redhawks” and “Redhawks” are included in versions of each logo.

“This truly was a student-led design process,” Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sullivan said. “I appreciate the work and thoughtfulness our student leaders put into the process to create the imagery that will represent Liberty Central School District and our Redhawks into the future.”

The new design will begin being put in use over the next several weeks.
