Mamakating to spend $12k on electronic key fobs for park buildings

MAMAKATING - The town of Mamakating is installing electronic key fobs at the kitchen and drama buildings at Mamakating Park. Town Supervisor Michael Robbins told the Democrat, “We just upgraded our camera over there because kids are coming in the middle of the night [and] tearing up the place. So we’ve upgraded everything for security reasons and I think this is a big help.”

The installation will cost the town just over $12 thousand for four doors in the park. However the board expects to recoup the funds through regular park rentals.

The majority opinion of the town board is that the new system will provide better security, accessibility and convenience for the people of Mamakating. In addition to added security, the new system will allow the town to lock and unlock the doors remotely, which they hope will reduce conflicts between rental periods.

However, two members of the town board, Tyler Wood and Matt Mordas, stood in opposition to the project, citing the cost. Robbins pointed out that because Mamakating spent nearly $80 thousand on key fobs for the doors at Town Hall a little over a year ago, the biggest expense for the project is already paid for. The four doors at the park are intended to be a cost-effective addition to the existing system.
