Oh, hello summertime

Posted

At long last, the sweltering heat has graced the county – just in time for the first day of summer on the 20th. Neither shade trees nor buildings could offer respite from the sun’s rays and the burning sensation in the air. And with the schools so close to the finish line of their annual three-month vacation, it truly is time for summer.

All this heat makes the allure of our great blue jewel, the Delaware River, almost irresistible. And for good reason! The river that runs borders the west side of the county is the perfect place to spend a hot summer day. Rent a raft, take a dip, have a light snack and a fizzy drink – the list of activities is nearly endless!

Not to mention, all along the river are businesses and restaurants worth paying a visit. Generations of hosting guests and customers throughout this busy season have created a culture with adventure and quality.

Utilize these next few months of extended sunshine to get to all that you can – all of it is worth the time. All of it is connected by the Delaware River.

But of course, it is a priority of all who call the river home to remind both visitors and natives alike to always wear your life jacket when out on the river, and always clean up after yourself if you produce any trash.

In the same spirit, treat your safety and the health of our shared river as you would your own backyard.

Every year, the threat of drowning is underplayed by many who take recreation on the Delaware River and are unfamiliar with how strong a current can be.

Don’t be the first victim this summer. Don’t let your friends be the first victim, either. Swim together, swim smart, swim safe.

With all of that in mind, go out and enjoy the great blessing we all share! Trips down the Delaware River are the hallmark of summer in the county and we all get to make the most out of it all.
