Only two games scheduled for Week 2

SULLIVAN COUNTY — Football season is back across the County, with most teams already having their first game or two to start to see where they stand and what they need to work on.

Monticello started the season 0-2 with losses to Port Jervis and Cornwall, but looked to get back on track as they took on Liberty Thursday afternoon. Liberty, similarly, started their season 0-2 with losses to Chester and Highland.

Among the many personnel changes and re-classifications that teams are dealing with this year, another change that has gone rather unnoticed is the new Thursday afternoon football games on the schedule.

Rather than teams playing just Fridays and Saturdays, some squads will have Thursday games sprinkled into their schedules.

Fallsburg and Tri-Valley were another team that played in the afternoon yesterday, and the result of that game and the Monticello/Liberty game will be in Tuesday’s paper.

Fallsburg opened their season with a big 48-24 victory over Ellenville. Tri-Valley, the defending Section IX 8-Man champs, struggled to get their offense going against Pine Plains and lost 33-0.

Eldred, who had to cancel their Week 1 game due to the weather, has a scheduled bye in Week 2, meaning that they’ll have to wait until Week 3 to start their season.

Sullivan West and Livingston Manor/Roscoe were scheduled to face off on Friday, but due to low numbers to start the season, LM/R had to forfeit their first two games of the year.
