To the editor:
The NYS Department of Health Monticello District Office will be moving within the next month plus a few days to 90 Crystal Run Road in Middletown.
We are about to lose a convenient access to a valuable office, which is centrally located in Sullivan County. It serves Fremont Center, Tennanah Lake, Callicoon, Barryville and Woodbourne. If your village, hamlet or township was not mentioned, it is included! This office, has a staff that protects your environmental health without you even realizing their hard work.
We all understand travel distance. Currently, gasoline prices are climbing. Taxpayers will be compensating each employee for required field visits and inspections. If approved, some staff will opt to use an approved car rental company. Those who must use their personal vehicles will suffer the most.
We are witnessing irrational governmental spending. The spending of monies, not only in this fiscal year but for years to come regarding this office relocation. The extra expense, will be passed on to each one of us through our individual taxes.
The excuse given for the move was that there was no suitable office location within this County! Are our local real estate agents really onboard with that statement?
Sullivan County residents have a voice. Google: NYS Governor Contact Form on your phone or computer. An online form will appear. The Topic will be: Health. Subject will be: NYS/DOH / Monticello District Office.
Please, make a roar of displeasure of losing this local office.
I want to express my personal sadness for the current and summer staff, for this advanced hardship. I understand the horrible inconvenience to you, your family members and friends by this relocation.
