Politics as usual

In nine more days, we will experience a very important congressional election. So, after reading an amazing article, I thought I would put together this small narrative.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered if all the politicians are against high taxes, why do we have high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code or fiscal policy. Congress does.

100 senators, 435 congressmen and women and 1 president equates to 536 beings out of the population of 335,000,000 are directly, morally, and individually responsible for the financial problems that plague this country.

Those 536 beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common fraud regardless of party.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of over 335 million cannot replace 536 people who have shown incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 536 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 536 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair. They write it.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.

If they do not receive social security but are on the elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 536 people shift the blame to the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like “the economy”, “inflation” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 536 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power and thus should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Any government that is big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you’ve got. Therefore, those who believe in the government’s huge spending plan should remember that the future we borrow on today, will be the yesterdays of our children’s tomorrow.

You are partially incorrect in your characterization of the House role in the Appropriations process. Appropriations bills are "supposed" to originate the House and then be passed before moving to the Senate, where after a majority vote in favor, they become an Enrolled Bill and are sent to the President for enactment or veto.

In addition, you characterize the President and 535 members of Congress as incompetent. Therefore, that characterization leads to the conclusion that the VOTERS are incompetent because they elect incompetent politicians.

On this basis, the only possible conclusion that can be drawn from this column is that the United States is screwed.
