GOSHEN — After some historic performances throughout the season, culminating in some top-tier Sectional performances, students from throughout Sullivan County headed back to Goshen last weekend to compete in the State Qualifiers.

After two days of fierce competition between athletes broken into two divisions, 13 student athletes from local schools will be headed to Cicero-North High School today to vie for State supremacy.

Tri-Valley, as has been the case over the past handful of years, had the most students qualify for States with eight.

Kendall McGregor advanced in the 100m High Hurdles.

Van Furman advanced in three separate events, the 1600m, 3200m and 3k Steeplechase.

Anna Furman advanced in the 3000m and the 2k Steeplechase.

The Lady Bears’ 4x800 relay team also qualified, with Ally Chevalier, Amelia Mickelson, Em Richardson, Brynn Poley, Sophia Richardson and Anna Furman all included in the group.

Monticello is sending two student-athletes to States as well. Tyrese Shaw, who ran an 11.30 in the 100m to qualify in Division 1, and Quenten Liciaga is going for the Long Jump after a leap of 23-01.50.

Fallsburg also has two athletes heading to the State Championships. Isaiah Young qualified in both the 100m and 400m, the former he set a school record in earlier this season. Jordyn Wall-Carty will be representing the Comets in the Long Jump after a leap of 17-08.00.

Sullivan West’s Peter March qualified for States in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 57.66.

The two-day State Championships begin this morning and will continue tomorrow.
