Showcasing the Gem of the Sullivan Catskills

October has been a busy month for the SCVA as our staff attends media events and trade shows and gears up for some big events (hint: Catskill Cuisine will be returning in 2024). Before we get to the future, let’s look at the past month.

We attended three major trade and travel shows this month, including Northstar Meetings in Connecticut, the International Travel Show in New York City, and the Bus Association of New York’s Annual Meeting and Marketplace, which was held right here in Sullivan County.

Travel and trade shows have long been the lifeblood of the tourism industry. These events provide a platform for destinations, hotels, tour operators, and other travel-related businesses to come together and showcase their offerings to a global audience. For the SCVA, these shows are a vital opportunity to introduce the world to the splendor of our region.

Participation in travel and trade shows is a strategic move by the SCVA. By attending these shows, we not only gain access to a wider audience but also get the opportunity to network with travel professionals, media and potential partners.

Trade shows offer an excellent platform to highlight the advantages of our region, helping us tap into the emerging trends in travel while booking business for our destination.

We know that travelers are not just seeking a place to visit; they are looking for a story to immerse themselves in. And we can showcase our location and share the narrative of a region that is rich in history, culture and natural beauty.

In other news, Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association President/CEO, Roberta Byron-Lockwood, is receiving the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSHTA) Outstanding Tourism Executive of the Year award.

This award recognizes a management/executive employee who has demonstrated outstanding contributions of leadership and service to their community.

Now looking ahead; coming up in December will be our annual meeting and holiday party, to be held on December 6 at Bethel Woods. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow Sullivan Catskills business owners and industry leaders while learning more about the tourism industry in the county. Register today by calling the office at 845-747-4449.

We’re also excited to announce a new holiday market that we are holding in the Liberty Mall, right next to our offices and visitors center. The market will be held on December 9 and will have local vendors with everything you need for the perfect holiday gift. Stay tuned for more updates to come about the market.

This is a great time to update your information on our website and database for new publications and opportunities for 2024.
