CICERO — The best Track and Field Student-Athletes that New York has to offer gathered at Cicero High School on June 7 and 8 to compete in the State Championship meet. Sullivan County schools sent a group of competitors to match up against winners from the other Sections across the state.

Fallsburg sent Jordyn Wall-Carty (Long Jump) and Isaiah Young (100m and 400m) to represent the Comets. Wall-Carty finished 21st in the long jump, leaping a distance of 15-8.50. Isaiah took fifth place in both the 100m and 400m finals after qualifying in both events.

Monticello also had two student-athletes contend for State glory. Tyrese Shaw (100m) finished 44th in the Division 1 event. Quenten Liciaga (Long Jump) finished 19th with a jump of 20-3.00.

Sullivan West’s Peter March qualified for the 400m Hurdles, making it through the first round and finishing in 10th in the finals with a time of 58.04.

Tri-Valley, who represented Sullivan County with eight student-athletes making their way up to the State Championships, had some top finishes at the event.

Van Furman won the  Division 2 3200m, despite not finishing until nearly 11:30 p.m. after hours of weather delays. Van was the first boy from Tri-Valley to win the two mile State Championship, and he still holds the fastest 3,000 Steeple time in the country for this year.

It was a quick turnaround for Furman, who ran the very first event on Saturday morning, the 3000m Steeplechase. Van finished 2nd in the event and third in the Federation.

Anna Furman was the runner up in the 3000m and finished sixth in the 2000m Steeplechase.

Kendall McGregor advanced to the finals for the 100m Hurdles after setting multiple school records in both indoor and outdoor track.

The girls 4x800m relay team, which included Ally Chevalier, Amelia Mickelson, Brynn Poley and Anna Furman had a great race as well.

Phantastic Competition in Philadelphia

Following the State Championships, the top student-athletes descended upon the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia this past weekend.

Tri-Valley eighth grader Matthew Ortiz-Jimenez finished the Middle School 100m in 12.66 seconds.

Ally Chevalier ran 2:22 in the Freshman 800 on Sunday.

Kane Poje finished 12th in the Freshman Discus, throwing 128-11.

Van Furman finished 16th in the Championship 5k, running a time of 15:10.
