PORT JERVIS – Tri-state residents will gather in Port Jervis, NY on Saturday, October 17 as part of a national day of action to encourage residents to vote in this year’s elections. The roadside rally, sponsored by Port Jervis Indivisible, will gather at West Main and Hudson Streets in Port Jervis, from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, October 17.

“We’re rallying to remind people that voting is critical given the administration’s attempts to create confusion and discourage people from going to the polls,” said Deerpark activist Lois Harford. “The best way to defend our right to vote is to go out and vote,” she said.

“We don’t tell people who to vote for, but we hope they’ll look at what’s going on in the world and support those candidates who support peace, an end to ICE terror, and funding for healthcare, food benefits and environmental protections,” said Dolores Schaefer.

Port Jervis Indivisible has taken an active role in opposing the war with Iran and held a Rally for Justice at Home and Abroad in Port Jervis on August 29. “As a proud six-year Vietnam veteran, I do not support the Iran War,” said Ralph E. Bownman, M.D., one of the organizers of the event.

Information on the event can be found on Port Jervis Indivisible’s Facebook page or by contacting the group at nokingsportjervis@gmail.com.
